Dallas,Texas Recruiting Business from California?

Recruiting Mickey Mouse or Just Being Goofy?

Do city council members of Dallas, Texas want to visit Disneyland to Recruit Mickey Mouse or are
they just being Goofy?

In a word: No. No there is no economic development recruitment. But that's exactly what Deputy
Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway and District 13 council member Mitchell Rasansky are requesting
of City Manager Mary Suhm -- in a highly satirical request, mind you -- in light of a Dallas Morning
Star article about some council members' rich taxpayer -funded travel habits.

"Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway and council member Mitchell Rasansky are requesting to
go to Disneyland with their wives to promote Economic Development between our two cities," reads
the letter, written on formal city letterhead. "We will be visiting with Mickey Mouse to see if he can
open up a business here."

Mr. Rasansky and Mr. Caraway contend that council members are traveling too frequently on the
taxpayers' dime.

Good advice. Otherwise they may become known as the seven political dwarfs, e.g. excessive, greedy, frivolous, foolish, foolhardy, reckless and broke.

But if they want to spend their taxpayers money in California to bolster the state’s economy, they
are more than welcome!  Hey, the Dallas Cowboys came to Oxnard for their Training Camp.  Why not?
