VISITING AN OUTDATED SACRAMENTO OR JUST POOR WORK
In a recent plane trip from Sacramento to Portland I took the time to
read the airline’s complementary magazine. As I was perusing the pages,
I came across a section about what to do and see in Sacramento. It was
a very well written piece. However, knowing California and specifically
Sacramento something hit me like a ton of bricks. There was something
wrong with the photo used in an advertising piece. After a short examination,
it seems that the photo used to promote the Sacramento Convention and
Visitors Bureau's ‘Gold Card’ which provides visitors destined to California’s
capital city with discounts and savings at attractions, restaurants and
shopping centers is terribly outdated. The photo of the Sacramento skyline
could be at least 10 years of age. As I reviewed what buildings were missing
I also recalled the old adage, ‘Anything that is worth doing is worth doing well”.
I thought, how well could this program be?
Tourism is an engine to economic development. This advertising did little to
visually enhance Sacramento. An opportunity missed - certainly. Recommendation:
Send your updated photos to the Sacramento Convention and Vistors Bureau.
The article and advertisement can be found in Southwest Airline’s December edition
of Spirit Magazine.
